This rod has just been reconditioned by myself and refitted with line guides in accordance with today's sizes and spacing. I'm not sure who the original maker / builder is but based on the shape of the handle and reel seat, I believe it to be American made, possibly a Montague rod. The rod is 8 ft. and 7-1/2 ft. in length depending on the tip chosen, it has 2 fly tips and 1 bait casting tip. (8'-7.5', 3/3, #5) I want you to know that the rod has one minor problem. The ferrules on the handle that allow you to either fly fish or do bait casting are not as tight as they should be. In any case this will not affect the great action of fishing with this vintage split bamboo fly rod. If you are a fly fisherman or not and want to get into fishing with a split bamboo fly rod you will not be disappointed with this one.

This is a 3 section 7ft medium to heavy action, 10 to 20 lb. line and 3/8 to 1 oz. lure rated graphite travel bait casting rod with case. This pole does have one defect in the handle as shown in the last picture. This defect can easily be repaired and in no way does it affect the way it fishes.

The history of fly fishing with split bamboo fly rods started in the 1800s back in England. The length of the split bamboo fly rod was on the average nine feet. It's just in recent times that rod makers started making shorter rods. If you want to try your hand at fly fishing outside of the standard here is a great short split bamboo fly rod with mahogany storage case. This rod has a 3 weight at only 6' 6 in length (6' 6, 4, #3). I fished this rod last week (1/31/2024) to check it out and was pleased with the casting distance of small wet and dry flies. With the larger/heavier flies, wooly burgers and streamers, the casting distance was only about 30 to 35 feet, pretty much like I expected. I would rate this rod as medium to fast action.
